Nutella & Vanilla Marble Cake

This was an experimental cake from a few weeks ago. It came out decently and served as a simple dessert and tea time cake.

I realized that I hadn't utilized Nutella in any cake recently, so I decided to add it to a regular vanilla sponge cake (with butter and sugar levels adjusted). (If you're reading this, sorry J, for the blasphemy of using Nutella ;))

Ingredients:
  1. 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 1 cup sugar
  3. 1 teaspoon baking powder
  4. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  6. 2 eggs, at room temperature
  7. 3/4 cup buttermilk
  8. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature
  9. 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  10. 1/3 cup nutella
Preparation:
  1.  Preheat oven to 375 and butter a 9 inch cake pan
  2. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract and beat until mixed
  4. Mix dry ingredients separately - flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt
  5. Starting with the dry ingredients, alternately add the flour mixture and buttermilk in 1/3 batches and stir until incorporated
  6. Transfer to cake pan.
  7. Drop spoons of nutella onto the batter and gently swirl it into the batter with a knife to create a marbling effect
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until cake tester comes out clean
  9. Cool the cake on a cooling rack for 15 minutes, then gently invert onto a plate
Serve with chocolate whipped cream
